Getting closer to the end of the semester I had to go through more and more presentations for my Cases on Business Economics course at Corvinus University. Checking dozens of presentations of bachelor students, usually there is a common issue with their deck. They don’t use the slide master function of the PowerPoint.
What is the slide master?
The Master slide is the core part of your presentation. This is a clean slide which only contains the fix design elements of the presentation. You can save your own template and reuse it later whenever you want.
Why is it so important in case solving?
It just makes your life much simpler. You can save time and minimalize the number of potential mistakes. Imagine when you send your deck in a ppt format to your clients / professors / judges and when they open it, it just falls to pieces. If you, as the presentation guru of your team spend 5-10 minutes with designing the slide master at the beginning that saves time for rest of the team. With this technique you can avoid the flipping phenomenon among the slides (you know, when the lines in the head part are not exactly in the same position and when you change the slides there is a small jump), which is not really professional.
How can I use it?
It’s pretty easy. Click on View on the toolbar and then you will find the slide master there. Once you clicked on the icon, blank slides will appear on the screen. On the left side, you will see the different types of charts. Watch out, there is a hierarchy among the slides on the left. The first one is the master of the master slides but the rest are on the same level.
